At least the bush will break your fall.

Yikes. Flip the feet to prevent sliding back, and put on some of those cheap rubber covers to increase the contact patch and p revent lateral movement.

Name the ladder Dick Turpin.

I have no issue with heights at all but  I would work off a single ladder before that.

It'd be so much safer than trusting that setup not to give out on you..

Came out looking great. The previous owners of my place capped all the trim with aluminum, and the finish is peeling off in places, leaving white flakes all over the yard. PVC is the way to go, color all the way through.

This picture is making an OSHA manager hit their head on their desk right now.

They’re handy, and you don’t really have any trade-offs for the extra grip they supply. My go-to for 95 % of ladder work, with occasional standoff use if needed.

Looks like fun!

That’d be illegal here.

We’d have to either hire a company to do it or rent the scaffolding and erect it ourselves once we’ve been trained to erect it and signed off, then have the scaffolding inspected and signed off before we could use it or have a company to come and erect the scaffolding for us, get it signed off as being safe and then we c ould go about using it.

Hell. All our window cleaners use telescopic poles as you either have to have someone at the base of the ladder if someone is up it or time consuming devices to secure the ladder.

You post to talk about your windows and the Oppos all think they work at OSHA.

What part of the country? Or, should I ask, what part of which  country?

And they protect the house. I have to paint soon so I’m not too worried but it wouldn’t be too happy with the marks it left if it was f resh   paint

Every for personal work?  I can understand that as a company but that seems nuts for home owners

1/2 hour south of Boston.  I'm not 100% sure but I don't think OSHA regulates work done by the home owner

Yep. Colleague needed some brickwork repointing on the front of his house due to some ‘settling’ (cracking in the brickwork).

Also the work was over five feet from the ground, he needed to get someone in, but to save money he did it himself, but that meant he had to get scaffolding erected. His options were to rent scaffolding, take a course on how to erect scaffolding safely and securely, then pay to have it signed off or pay someone to install the scaffolding with the rent of the scaffold ing in with the price, then have it signed off for him to use.

He chose to rent the scaffolding for a few weeks , do a course, erect the scaffolding. Have it signed off and do the repointing at his leisure.

how close do they watch?  I feel like I could get away with that even if i needed a permit.

Council workers, etc... could see. It’s like getting a skip now. If you want to hire a skip and the skip is to be on the road or road side, you need to get planning consent to have it and it’s no be put within a reasonable area of where it’s needed, not cause obstruction, etc...

There are many ways they could check. If you hire the scaffolding, the scaffolding company could say where they were delivering to,

Oh, I’m sure you’re right about that. It’s always interesting to me when you post one thing, and all the Oppos fixate on something else. When I looked at your photo I looked at your scaffold right off the bat, but I also looked at the siding shingles and wondered about how you’d be flashing the new window. I’ve replaced many of the windows in my own home and most of them have failed and need to be replaced by the manufacturer and probably will be done by some jackass halfwit contractor who will be about 0.02% as conscientious as I was when I installed them originally.

There is a British comedian called Al Murray aka The Pub Landlord a done of his catchphrases is,

Pub Landlord shouts : where would we be if we had too many rules?

Audience shouts: Germany!

Pub Landlord shouts: and where would we be if we didn’t have any ?

Audience sh outs: France!

The thing is the rules and laws while may sound impeding and are to a degree, are there for everyone’s protection.

It means everyone is singing from the same songsheet, people know what is expected of them and they know what they can expect from others.

I highly suppose there are people who don't put up scaffolding, but it's their risk and highly doubt any insurance would pay out if anything happened.
